Off My Shelf

Wednesday, February 5, 2014

These are a few currents from my library and bookshelf that I'm reading.  Yes, I realize that it's ironic that I have a "Salt, Sugar, Fat" book and a cake book in the same stack, but that is just the way that I am: I'm really interested in eating healthy, but sometimes I don't quite practice what I preach...
1.  Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think.  This one has been totally fascinating!  I am definitely trying to be better at not eating mindlessly throughout the day after reading this one.  I still sneak the occasional pre-dinner ice cream spoonful, though... Old habits die hard.
2.  Salt, Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us.  I have just started this one, but I am intrigued already.  A closer look at the food giants and how they infuse their food with salt, sugar, and fat. I am feeling so wary of processed foods right now!
3.  Bomb: The Race to Build - and Steal- the World's Most Dangerous Weapon.  Still haven't gotten to this one, but Janssen highly recommends it.  Can't wait to read it! I love a good historical read.  It always makes me feel so much smarter afterwards.
4.  Behind the Scenes at Downton Abbey.  An awesome gift from my mom!  This has been a       great read!  Not done with it, but I am kind of glad that I get to prolong the fun.  If you love Downton Abbey, and like knowing about the behind the scenes kind of things, this one is for you!  Lots of interesting facts and stories about the writing of the show.
5.  Martha Stewart's Cakes.  I have made to-die-for chocolate molten cakes and a beautiful cinnamon streusel coffee cake that was delicious.  Seriously, I want to make everything out of this entire book!
6.  100 Ways To Happy Chic Your Life.  Beautiful pictures and fun ideas.  I love a good decorating book.  We are redecorating our bedroom right now and it has been loads of fun trying to come up with cool ideas for ways to decorate our room!

  1. Glad you're loving the Downton Abbey book! I've only read little bits, but the photos are amazing! I need to check out some of these other titles.

  2. Those look great! I've had the Mindless Eating book and the Martha Stewart book on my list forever (there's some irony there I think) but I'm going to have to add the 100 Ways to Happy Chic Your Life to the list as well! Sounds just what I've been looking for.
