Apple, Bacon, Sweet Potato Pizza

Friday, May 15, 2015

I have come to really love sweet and salty recipes.  I think they balance themselves out nicely, flavor-wise.  This recipe is no exception. Crisp, salty bacon and salty cheese paired with a sweet apple and sweet potato.  The apple, bacon, cheese combo is one of my very favorites right now. I don't care it if they are all fall flavors.  I will eat them all year round!

Apple, Bacon, Sweet Potato Pizza

1 sweet apple (Fuji, Pink Lady or the like), sliced and the slices chopped into small pieces
1 cooked sweet potato, discarding the skin (I poke holes in mine and microwave it until it is soft, about 8 minutes)
5 slices of high quality bacon, cooked and crumbled (the key is high quality on this one)
1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Roll out the pizza crust on a silicone mat that is lightly dusted with cornmeal.  Mash up the cooked sweet potato and spread it over the pizza crust.  Sprinkle the shredded cheese over the crust, then place bacon and apple evenly across the cheese.  Cook at 450°F for 8 - 10 minutes or until the crust begins to brown.

  1. Sounds delicious, I need to try it soon! It reminds me a little bit of a pizza I had up in Missoula, Montana that had sweet potato on it. The place is called Bob Marshall's Bigga Pizza and they had the best flavor combinations! My favorite is a pizza with an olive oil base, and then it had cherry chutney, sausage, mozzarella, and a tiny bit of gouda.

    1. Shelly,
That sounds AMAZING! How fun! I need to do a better job of buying fun cheese. We would have way more interesting pizza if I decided to buy interesting cheeses! A new goal for me. Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Thanks, Danielle! We make pizza ALL THE TIME! About once a week. Typically we make very similar pizza because we know what we like, but I want to branch out and try more interesting and cool pizza. Then I will post them all here :)
