Raiding My Sister's Closet: Dress It Up/Dress It Down Booties

Tuesday, March 8, 2016

As a self-proclaimed minimalist, I have spent the last year trying to reduce what I have in my closet, as well as limit buying new pieces. Lately, I have been focusing on collecting and keeping classic looking pieces that will work with many outfits, and be an asset to my closet for years to come.
I have been trying really hard not to make spontaneous purchases, but these shoes were a sort of spontaneous buy. In my defense,  I had a gift card for The Mint Julep Boutique and had been looking out for something to use it on for a few months.  Most of their clothes didn't appeal to me, but these beauties popped up one night, and they seemed just right for my style.  Understated, classic with a twist, and a versatile color.  I thought they would fit right in with the direction that my closet is going.

And they have been even better than I thought they would be, and I have worn them almost every day since then.  They are just classic enough to match with almost everything in my closet, and because they have a slight heel, they can be dressed up or down.  They are also an incredibly versatile color, and look great with most any outfit.  Plus they slip on and off, which is a huge win when I am putting shoes on while carrying a baby.

It is pieces like this that remind me why I should buy the right piece, and not just the piece that is on sale.  The right piece will bring joy again and again.  The sale piece probably won't last until next season, and I will end up wishing I had saved the money to buy something nicer.
