Last weekend, my mom, my sisters and I spent the weekend doing fun things around SLC, and it was just the best! Earlier this year, I had seen super cheap plane tickets for Amsterdam, and jokingly sent them on to my sisters, asking them who wanted to come (this was before I found out I was pregnant with twins). None of us could actually do it, but it did plant a seed for a sisters weekend somewhere, sometime. I thought it might be off the table when I found out I was having twins, but my lovely mom and sisters accommodated me, and came to Utah to see me! They really are the best!

We ate lots of delicious food, talked a ton, visited our alma mater (we all graduated from the same college), went to a fantastic play, and then they threw me a surprise baby shower. If you saw Merrick's Insta story about it, I was thoroughly and completely shocked.

It was basically a dream weekend made even better when Adam told me that he and Fox had the best time playing together.

This trip happened to coincide with some very cold temperatures, and all the Fall sweaters and coats had to come out (actually, neither of my sisters had brought a warm enough coat, so there was some literal 'raiding my sister's closet,' for coats this past weekend. I was grateful that my Texan closet could accommodate).

I was thrilled to pull out my favorite fall scarves and boots, and find that layering a sweater under my coat is a great way to adapt to potential weather changes. It was nice and warm during the nippy day, but when we went to dinner, I could pull off the coat, and still stay cozy. Then, I took off the sweater later in the evening at the baby shower when I got sort of hot, and was still wearing a perfectly acceptable outfit. It was great. Layering FTW!

Raiding My Sister's Closet

I used to think I didn't own that many clothes. Until we moved. There is something about moving that makes you feel like you have a mountain of stuff (ours is still a mountain of stuff, because it is currently living in a large, somewhat organized pile in my in-laws basement).

While I do have a lot of clothes, I still feel like there have been some holes in my closet that needed filling, including a swim coverup. But, when I went looking for one, I didn't want a coverup that I could only wear for the next four weeks and then have to pack up with all the other clothes that don't fit a 'pregnant with twins' body.

I also hate stuff that can only be worn to the pool, because I don't spend enough time at the pool to justify a dress just for that, so I wanted something that had some sort of sleeve and was long enough to wear to the grocery store (I never think I have a lot of opinions until I start looking, then I can't find a single thing that fulfills all the requirements I have).

After lots of online browsing, a little in-store looking, and a Kohl's cash incentive, I found this dress in the maternity section at Kohl's. Is it the most amazing swim cover up you have ever seen? No. It isn't even a swim cover up. But it fits all the requirements (maternity body: check! sleeves: check! knee length: check! super lightweight: check! can be worn in spring and fall: check!), and I thought it was pretty cute. It is also dang comfy, which seems really important right now. Anyway, I am kind of loving it, and wore it for an extra 3 hours after these photos were taken. That is the sign of a successful swim coverup.

Raiding My Sister's Closet, summer outfits

Last year, I bought this pair of white pants. I had always been leery of them, because a toddler and white pants can mean disaster, but, white pants were everywhere, and I really wanted a pair. So I ordered these, and despite the frequent need for a bleach pen, I have been amazed at what a difference they make temperature wise in the summer!

You see, I don't own a pair of shorts, and potentially never will. I don't like the way shorts look on me, and so having a pair of lighter pants is always a good thing. I have been amazed at how comfortable they are! White always feels so fresh and clean in the summertime, and I love how put together I feel when I wear them!

Are you a white fan? Or are you afraid of it because it gets dirty so easily?

Minimalist closet, Raiding My Sister's Closet

I tend to avoid super trendy clothes, because they seem so fleeting. They show up for summer, and by fall they are old news, and something new has taken their place. Not great for someone who buys clothes pretty infrequently, and tries to get them to last as long as possible (which is why my closet is filled with black and white stripes and white button downs).

I almost always love trendy clothes, because attractive people with amazing hair and gorgeous smiles wear them and show up all over instagram and the blogging world, making the latest trend look fabulous, so who wouldn't think they looked great?

Despite trying to avoid them, occasionally, I fall for some trend or other, and end up with a piece or two from that season. I was not a huge fan of embroidery until I saw this top. I couldn't stop thinking about it, and since I had some store credit to their online shop, I had to get it. I love it even more in person than online.

One quick amusing story about this outfit. Janssen sent me these gorgeous gold earrings a few years ago for my birthday, and I wear them quite often and love them. Last week, I wore them to an event with Adam, and another guest there told me they look like potato chips. I can't stop laughing about it!

Minimalist closet, Raiding My Sister's Closet

I have long been looking for a sort of signature look. I have oscillated between 3 or 4 fashion camps over the course of my fashion conscious life, and never was sure where I wanted to fit in. As I have been working on my "curated closet project," I have come to realize what I really enjoy wearing (it is really the best thing ever!).

This outfit completely sums up my current needs/favorites/aesthetic. Striped top, slightly lounge-y sweater, comfy (but fun) shoes, and high waisted skinny jeans. I wear a variation of this several times a week, and I love it every time.

It is simple, easy to wear, easy to cook in, and easy to parent in. It is great on cool days, and great on warm days, and good for running after a toddler. This will probalby be what I live in for the next 3-4 years, until I decide that I need a new look, or wear out all the clothes I currently own.
