Sisters Share It All: One Store: Day to Night

I was in charge of choosing this round of Sisters Share It All, and today we are each bringing you two outfits put together entirely from one store's merchandise. Each of us chose a daytime outfit and an evening outfit.  I chose Old Navy, because the regular person (aka: me) can actually afford to buy an entire outfit from this store (unlike a few of my favorite stores... too bad!).   Did you know that OldNavy.com doesn't sell jewelry?  I had to get creative with belts, scarves and bags.  Enjoy!

Sister Share it All: My Favorite Shoes

       Of all of the things to shop for, I think my very favorite purchases are shoes.  Because of this, I own a monstrous amount of them.  In fact, when Merrick suggested that we pick a favorite pair to share, I asked Adam what he thought my favorite pair was, because I could think of at least 6 or 7 pairs that could be considered favorites.  I thought he might bring a new perspective.  I finally settled on these Urban Outfitter oxfords, because they seemed like an honest choice. They are quite comfortable, they are a little hipster trendy, yet the oxford style is classic, and they are quite well-made.  Lately I have been wanting to wear flat shoes more and more even with skirts (two years ago, this look would have made me shudder.  Today, this choice makes my feet rejoice), and it has been a change for the better.  Please pardon the lame balcony pictures... we just bought a tripod and remote and I was trying it out... I still have not gotten the courage to go out and take them where my 400 neighbors can see me looking vain while I take photos of myself... 

I will get there eventually.

Sisters Share It All: Pinterest Challenge Wrap Up (Part 4)

And here we are with our last check in on the Pinterest Challenge!  I was a little more prepared this time, and got my last 3 projects whipped out! It has been so fun seeing many of your project reports in the last few weeks!  

1.  Hand painted Sewing accessories jars.  The painting was a little spotty... I used the Martha Stewart glass paint, but had a really hard time getting it to go on smoothly with a brush.  I should have sprayed it on, but in the end, I gave up and painted it with craft paint and finished it with the Martha Stewart satin finish.  I ended up being very please with this project, mostly because it eliminated the pile of scissors, thread and pins sitting on my windowsill!  Now it looks lovely and organized!  I might add a skinny glass pencil holder when I get around to it... 

2.  My sailor inspired look:

 3.  Snail-print peplum shirt:  This was, by far, my most intimidating and time consuming project.  I loosely patterned it based off of a shirt that I own, but made up all the peplum/pleat patterns, as well as the sleeve.  Overall, it was very fun to make, although a little frustrating in some parts!  I love how bright and summery it turned out!  I can't wait to wear it!

Pinterest Challenge (Part 3)

And we are back with part 3 of the Pinterest Challenge!  We each picked 6 pins that we want  to create, wear, cook, etc., and over 6 weeks, we are going to do them and report our progress.  I did two here, and these last two weeks, I didn't finish my other project... so you get 1 pin update (hooray for under-achieving!)!  I made this fabulous galette, with this tasty crust.  I loved it, because it was a fancy-looking dessert, but it was not super sweet, nor did it feel as unhealthy as say, my favorite brownie recipe.  It also lasted 2 days, which surprised me, but it was quite good day 2.  Just for the record.

Sisters Share It All: Pinterest Challenge (Part 2)

Project 1:  Quinoa and black beans

The quinoa was actually very good.  I tried it for the first time while we were in NYC last year, in cold salad form.  It made me want to throw up.  It was awful (It was mixed with celery and cranberries too, both of which are not my favorite. You may be asking yourself, "why did she order this?" In my defense, the menu said something like 'mixed with seasonal vegetables'.  I find myself thinking, "since when have dried cranberries been a seasonable vegetable!?!).  But since then, I have seen so many recipes where it was used and looked tasty, that I wanted to try it in a hot form, thinking I would like it more.  I was right!

Project 2:  Envelope Clutch

This is the part where I admit that I had high hopes for this clutch. It looks okay in this picture if you don't look too closely...  I tried really hard, I promise. I bought special interfacing so that it would't look homemade, and spend several hours carefully patterning, cutting it out and sewing it together.  In the end, the corners are a little bunchy, the flap doesn't lay flat because the lining is slightly too small, and i burned my hand twice with the steam on the iron...  I am clearly not cut out for the purse making industry. That or I will not win any prizes for time management this week, because I totally rushed at the end. Anyway, I wish you luck if you decided to make a purse.  Believe me when I say that I won't be posting a purse tutorial on here anytime soon (unless I go stark-raving mad and decide to make purses until I can get them right. Highly unlikely).
