Raiding My Sister's Closet: A Current Favorite

Tuesday, July 15, 2014

A 'favorite' item of clothing is so subjective.  I have a few shirts that I loved a few years ago, and now, I almost never wear them.  Occasionally I will try them on and they just don't have them same zip they held before.  Some clothes just make you feel good, and I think it is important to wear those clothes often, even if you feel slightly lame wearing the same thing every week or two.  After all, isn't it better to wear 5-6 shirts that make you feel gorgeous frequently rather than wearing 30 shirts that only make you feel okay?  I think so.  Anyway, moving onto this particular piece, this was a recent acquisition from J.C. Penney that I love the fit, the material and the pattern on.  I am a very average height woman (about 5'5"ish) and my other maxi dress is about 3 inches too long, so I was thrilled when this one fit pretty perfectly. I love the beautiful geometric pattern.  I have a feeling I will be wearing this quite often this summer, because it is light, cool and can be dressed up, or dressed down.  This one is going to be an "I feel awesome in this" dress.

Maxi Dress

Monday, July 15, 2013

In this post, I mentioned my difficulty with embracing new trends.  After thinking about it I decided that it probably goes back to my costuming background.  In costuming, you get to experience the best and the worst of fashions as you research and design. There are some terribly hideous outfits from the past. Sometimes I worry I will look back at my own pictures and think "What was I thinking!  How could I have possibly thought that was a good idea or in any way attractive."  So, I try to evolve my closet slowly and embrace lasting trends... I do LOVE the occasionally trendy thing and often wear it to death, but for now, give me slow fashion and let me make it my style.  However, I am totally loving this dress that I got for my birthday last summer.  Maxi dresses have taken a while for me to embrace, but they are a perfect summertime outfit. This dress is perfect for a regular day, because it is cool and comfortable, but I wore it on our one year anniversary date last year, and felt completely beautiful and appropriate going out to a nice restaurant.
