34 Weeks Pregnant with Twins

Friday, November 10, 2017

sweater: thredup ($10 off your first order through this link)// skirt: h&m (it is actually on sale for $8)
(I totally thought this sweater would fit to the very end of this pregnancy.  It still fits, but just barely!)

I say this every week, but I can't believe how close I am!  In a regular pregnancy, this is close, but not that close, but in this case, I am only two weeks away from delivering (but it really could be any day, because twins).

I scheduled my c-section last week so now it is for real going to be during my 36th week.  That sounds really early, but with twins, that is pretty normal, and like I mentioned in my last pregnancy update, getting them past 35 weeks is great, and anytime after that is usually okay.  My doctor is recommending between the 36th and 37th week, to lower the chances of a still-birth (which goes up drastically after 37 weeks, because your placenta can start to break down and not support two babies anymore).

They may need a little NICU time, being born this early, but hopefully not too much.  Twins tend to develop more quickly than singles, too, so they are usually more able to handle being out of the womb early.

I am currently scheduled for a c-section, because both babies were breech at my last appointment with my OB, but we had a little miracle and he is now head down, as of yesterday, so if he will stay there, I can most likely do a vaginal delivery.  They are both pretty wiggly, so there is a chance he could flip a few more times before I deliver.  So sadly, no guarantees.

Last week, when I went in for a growth ultrasound, they said that the twins are weighing about 4 lbs and 5 lbs, respectively (although the tech followed that up by saying that it could be up to a pound and a half off)!  I am thrilled to hear they are so big.  I am trying to do my best to eat a lot these last few weeks to help fatten them up a little before birth.

I am feeling surprisingly good.  Not too many contractions, thankfully, and overall able to eat most anything.  I do have to be careful not to eat anything a few hours before bed, because the heartburn is still an issue sometimes, but medication has made it SO much better.

My clothing selections are shrinking in an incredible way, and I lose a few shirts every week, because they no longer cover my belly, but with only a few weeks left, I don't actually care that much.  I have a pretty dress that Merrick bought for me for my birthday that will last to the end (it is a maxi dress), so if all else fails, I have that.

I also have packed most of my hospital bag, which is a relief to have done.  A few last things that need to go in there, but those are things I use everyday and can't pack until we actually leave (my hairbrush, deodorant, etc).

Funny story from this week.  I think I drank too much water too close to bed, and I couldn't get comfortable because of the heartburn.  So I propped up my pillows and must have fallen asleep soon thereafter.  What felt like seconds later, Adam was climbing out of bed, asking me if I was okay.  He isn't the type to have weird dreams or talk in his sleep, so I was pretty confused.

Then he told me his side of the bed was all wet, and was asking if my water broke.  After a few seconds of assessment, I didn't feel anything to indicate that, but once he dug around on the bed a little, he found my water bottle, open and apparently dumping water all the bedspread, sheets and his legs.  I guess I had grabbed it right before I fell asleep, and then didn't put it back on the nightstand.  It has been slowly draining over his legs for almost 2 hours before it woke him up.  Whoops!

So we did a quick sheet change (thankfully our mattress protector is great and the mattress wasn't wet at all), and were back to bed in about 5 minutes.  A sort of funny story, but I think we were both relieved that my water had not broken.  Stay in there for another two weeks, dudes!

I am a little terrified that we are so close, but also really excited to be in the final stretch!  We can't wait to meet these babies in just a few short weeks!

20 Weeks Twin Pregnancy Update

Friday, August 4, 2017

I am halfway through!  That is insane.

- Still napping regularly.  I don't have to take a nap everyday now, which is nice, but some days it is definitely a necessity.

- Eating a ton everyday (A book that was recommended to me says you should gain most of your weight in the first 28 weeks when the placenta is developing and forming vital organs and such.  Then plateau until delivery, and you should have heavier, healthier babies, and be able to lose the weight faster... Guess we will see!).  My favorites currently are plain yogurt and bran sticks, crackers and cheese, and cold cereal.  Obviously all the carbs.

- Babies moving like crazy.  Most days I feel them moving a lot.  I think most people are just starting to feel their babies right about now, but I have been feeling them for weeks.

- Terrible heartburn.  Tums are a current staple in our medicine cabinet.  I had it pretty bad with Fox, so I was not totally surprised.  Last pregnancy, I thought it was a dairy allergy for about 6 weeks, but this time I was prepared, and knew how to handle it.  Makes a huge difference.

- Feeling huge.  I went to a doctor appointment a few days ago where they measured me, and I am measuring at about 24 weeks... I am going to be huge by the end!!!

My Pregnancy Essentials

Friday, December 26, 2014

My pregnancy has really been pretty great!  First trimester I was pretty naseated a lot of the time, and I couldn't eat grilled chicken EVER (I really enjoyed deep fried chicken, though), and decided that cooking was overrated because food didn't sound super great.  Second trimester I felt pretty good, but thought I had developed a diary allergy, only to find out that it was actually heart burn.  Third trimester has been filled with tums and no late night snacking(sadly...), but overall, has been fine.  I feel sort of huge, but recognize that that is just part of pregnancy... That being said, here are a few things that I have relied on during my pregnancy.  Laugh, if you must.  But seriously folks, these were important.

1.  Bubba Water Bottle - My in-laws gave me this for Christmas last year, and even though it looks like I am drinking coffee all the time, I almost always have water in it, and try to drink a few of these everyday.  Some days are much more successful than others.
2. Ice Cream (specifically peanut butter and peppermint) - I love ice cream and almost never wanted to eat it during my second trimester, but now I can't get enough of it!  Baby is probably going to be obsessed with ice cream, if pregnancy is any indication of future food likes and dislikes.
3.  Almond Oil - I read in Bringing Up Bebe, by Pamela Druckerman, that she used sweet almond oil and didn't get any stretch marks with her first pregnancy (she had twins the second time around, and stretch marks were not avoided), so I decided to try it out.  I still have a possible week of baby growing, but so far so good!
4. Old Navy Maternity Pants/Leggings - I start getting ready for bed about 6:30PM these days because these Old Navy pants that Janssen sent me are so dang comfy!  I wear leggings to bed just about every night, because my whole body temperature has sky rocketed with a baby and I usually get really hot during the night.  Leggings are cooler than the flannel pj's that I keep in the closet.
5. Tums - An absolute necessity for me, especially before going to bed.  Plus, the yellow ones taste pretty great!

I probably should have added beef jerky to this list, because I have eaten SO much beef jerky this pregnancy... I guess I am protein deficient or something, because the amount of meat that I crave is unbelievable.  I used to be mostly vegetarian, but pregnancy has made meat much more necessary.  I don't think Adam minds too much either.
I am curious what cravings and needs you had during pregnancy?  Anything crazy or weird?

Pregnant for the Holidays: Casual Style (Part 1)

Monday, December 8, 2014

The holiday season always brings lots of parties and gatherings with family and friends, and as a pregnant person (who is feeling sort of massive with only 3 weeks to go), I want to look my best for all of the events that we have planned over the next few weeks.   So, I came up with a few types of outfits that could work for my holiday parties, and might give you some ideas for the holiday parties that you might be attending throughout the month of December!

Look 1: Go for a striped sweater, a gold or metallic scarf and jeans with metallic shoes.  The metallic accents will give the outfit a festive feeling, but will keep your from feeling like a disco ball.

sweater: downeast basics// scarf: gift (similar)// earrings: kendra scott// jeans: old navy// shoes: ross

Look 2: Look festive in a red sweater, but combine it with a patterned blouse and some pearls for a cute casual look.

sweater: clothing swap// blouse: jc penney(similar)// jeans: old navy// shoes: target (similar)// necklace: gift

Look 3: Possibly my favorite look of the three... Pair a cranberry pair of maternity pants with a striped shirt and fitted jacket.  Throw on some boots and gold earrings and you are festive AND fashionable.

shirt: forever 21 (somewhat similar)// jacket: target (similar)// pants: old navy// boots: dsw// earrings: nickel & suede

Check back later this week for part 2!

Thirty-Six

Wednesday, December 3, 2014

Well, only 4 weeks left, folks!  We are not counting on an early baby, but it would be nice :) We packed our hospital bag last week, and got to pick out some cute baby things to bring him home in (one Christmas outfit for if he comes before or on Christmas, and one other outfit with the cutest hooded sweater, for if he comes after Christmas), and finalized the changes to our room.  We are in a one-bedroom apartment right now and decided that we want to him sleep in our closet.  So last weekend, we spent the better part of Saturday moving all our stuff out of the closet into two ikea shelving units and putting all his clothing, diapers and other stuff in the closet!  It has been really fun to see it all come together!  And, it is making me really excited to bring this little dude home!  We have one final ultra-sound next week and then he can come whenever he likes! Eek!

Adam and I have been talking about taking some pictures of just the two of us, before the baby comes, for a few months, because we only have about 30 pictures of the two of us( most of them being ugly or fuzzy), from the entire time we have been married, so today we went and took some photos for our Christmas card, and so that we would have a few nice ones of the two of us.  Mostly we just goofed of and took pictures of us with silly faces, but some of them turned out great!  Plus, Adam took a few of these type photos to commemorate thirty-six weeks.
