Fox Monthly: Eighteen Months

Friday, July 22, 2016

I have always been a person who loves clothes, and I knew that one day when we had a baby, I would want to dress him or her stylishly, because what's cuter than a well-dressed baby?  Nothing.  Of course, Fox came along, and I have tried my utmost to make sure he looks darling at all times.

According to friends who have older children, there weren't a lot of choices for baby boys in the past. But in the last few years, things have really improved and I have found loads of cute options for him, both used and new.

We have a lot of second-hand clothes from friends, that I have carefully looked through, selecting things that fit with my aesthetic and that were in good shape, while adding the occasional nice, new article of clothing from various retailers.  My favorite of these nice, new items has been our Freshly Picked Moccasins.

Merrick's boys have worn these for years, and I always thought they were darling.  They are a bit pricier than what I would normally spend on shoes, but the mocs match everything, and they last so well (Fox's last pair fit him about six months, and still look great)! We often go days without him wearing any other pair of shoes, because they are so easy and look so cute with everything in his closet.

See?! Doesn't he look darling in those mocs?  He just had his eighteen month birthday and to commemorate, I took some photos, and wanted to record a few of the delightful little mannerisms that he has recently begun to develop.  Here are a few fun things about Fox right now:

1.  He has started talking a little bit, and he says "I did it" pretty often, although it sounds more like "I  dihhh!"  He can also say "What's that," "truck," and "giraffe."  His vocabulary still comes and goes, and he will say a word or phrase a few times over the course of a couple of days, and then not say it again for weeks.

2.  He is obsessed with all cars and animals.  We regularly visit this museum on BYU campus that has a bunch of animals that have been taxidermied.  They have a ton of big animals and some small ones and he thinks it is the greatest thing.  We also spend a lot of time looking out the front window watching the cars drive by.  He gets particularly excited when big trucks drive by.

3.  Fox is getting really helpful.  He knows how to throw stuff away, if we ask him too, and if he knows we are getting close to putting him to bed, he will go grab a diaper and wipes.

Earlier this week, I was getting the laundry sorted, and he carried a couple of items out of the room.  A minute later he reappeared to grab another handful.  When I took the laundry basket down the hall to load the washer a minute or two later, I realized he had been putting the clothes in the washer.  It was beyond cute!

4.  He loves being outside more than just about anything.  We can go for a walk, play in the backyard, go to the park or just stand on the sidewalk outside our house and he is thrilled.  It makes me really grateful that we are in Utah this summer and not Texas, because Texas summers are brutally hot, and it starts to get hot very early in the morning.  Most mornings here in Utah are cool and crisp and it doesn't warm up until 10ish.  I love being able to make him happy by going on a daily walk.

5.  He is still such a happy, sweet boy.  So many smiles, spontaneous hugs, open mouthed kisses (on the cheek) and more.  We just love you, Fox!  Thanks for being such a good boy!

Fox Monthly: 15 Months + Bluebonnet Photos

Thursday, April 7, 2016

Every spring the roadsides and empty fields of Austin explode with vibrant colors as the wildflowers bloom.  Within a few days, my Facebook feed is filled with families, dogs and and small children laughing and smiling in fields of bluebonnets.  It can be a little cliche, but I think it is beautiful.

Last year, Fox couldn't even sit up when the flowers were blooming, and I had first child fears of him getting stung by a bee or fire-ants.  This year, he still can't walk or stand, but he fakes it pretty well by baaarely holding on to me when he stands up. That was good enough for me, so we decided to try out some photos in the bluebells!

Adam was a good sport and we went out on the sunniest day of the year (which is about every other day right now), at 2 o'clock in the afternoon.  I don't think I could have chosen a worse time to take them. Despite the intense sun, we had a nice time, and took some darling photos of Fox.

Fox is currently the cutest, funnest baby around!  He is into everything these days, and seems to enjoy making and leaving a mess. I am trying to help him enjoy picking toys up and putting them away as much as he loves dumping them out.

Fox still isn't walking, and I am trying to appreciate that while I still can.  Everyone says it is so much nicer when they can't walk yet, but the mother within doesn't want him to be a little behind all his friends.  Thankfully he is getting close, and I hope he will be walking in the next few weeks.  I guess we will see.

He still eats pretty well, and is obsessed with frozen blueberries.  I think they help with the teething.  And speaking of teething, he has lots of teeth now, including several molars (as a parent, every new milestone is exciting, even molars!)!

He loves music, and has this little singing panda bear that he loves listening to.  I think he likes having background music, because sometimes he will be looking at a book, it will be sitting next to him, and when the music will stop, he will look up from his book, push another button to make the music play again, and go back to his book.

He is obsessed with playing on the couch or the bed, and loves to flop down on the pillows and present to be relaxing.  He has even figured out how to climb down from the storage bench that sits in front of our couch.

Gosh, we like him!

P.S.  I am planning on making more videos and even have footage from a couple that I still need to edit, but editing them always takes so long, and I have been otherwise occupied with Fox and other random things in my life!  Hopefully I will get back on the bandwagon soon and be able to make some more videos!  Thanks for your continued patience with my slowness!

Fox Monthly: 12 Months! + video!

Wednesday, January 27, 2016

Well, I officially have a one year old!  That is SO weird! When you have a baby, you unconsciously assume that time freezes and you will always have a baby, but they grow up so fast and change so much over the first year! It makes me just a little sad to see him become such a big boy!

But, he is getting more fun all the time, and is starting to imitate things we do, make funny faces, play with us, and express opinions about stuff.

A few things about Fox that I don't want to forget:
- He still loves taking baths.  If we turn the bathtub water on, you better believe he will come running.  Also, he tries to jump in the empty bathtub fully clothed occasionally.  Thankfully he can't actually climb over the side yet.

- He is getting picky with his food, and often spits stuff out that he isn't interested in eating.  I think it might be more that he wants to make his own food decisions, because I often feed him the same thing later, and he eats it willingly.

- He is not walking yet, but stands up against furniture, and is slowly starting to cruise (think teeny-tiny baby steps) around it.

- He loves being outside and gets really excited when we pull the stroller out for a walk.

- He really enjoys looking through books with real pages (as opposed to board books, although he loves those, too).  He is very careful and very rarely rips them.  He just flips through the pages. He also loves looking through any book that I happen to be reading.

We think you are the best, Little Fox!  Happy Birthday!

Two other quick things before you look through the photos:
1.  I would be so grateful if you would take a minute to vote for me on the Mrs. Meyers Maker webpage.  Just click the heart next to my name.  No sign up required.  You can vote daily until Feb 15th.
2.  There is a video embedded at the bottom in celebration of Fox's birthday!  Check it out! And subscribe to my youtube channel for weekly videos!  Last week, I counted my Mrs. Meyer's video submission as my weekly video, because it took so many hours to make, and it went live last week!

Fox Monthly: Eleven Months

Monday, December 21, 2015

Eleven months has been the best month yet!  Each stage has its perks, but this one is my favorite thus far.  He communicates better than ever (mostly gurgling sounds and reaching), and is crawling and trying to pull up on stuff.  He loves it when Daddy comes home and has loved spending time with his Grandmas and Grandpas the last few weeks (He has been lucky enough to see both within a week of each other).  I was worried he wouldn't go to them, but he gives them each a heart melting smile and wants them to hold him and watch him all the time!  He smiles, is a pretty good sleeper, and is an enthusiastic and adventurous eater.

Here are a few fun things about Fox currently:
1.  He is crawling and loves following Adam and me around!
2.  He is obsessed with opening drawers and trying to open cabinets.  Thankfully he is not particularly good at opening cabinets yet, but he is an expert at drawers.
3.  He makes the cutest faces these days.  My favorite might be the one where he scrunches up his nose and snorts.  So cute!
4. He thinks pushing his wagon, the stroller and grocery carts around is amazing and wants to do it anytime he is close to one.  When I take him in my baby carrier to the store, he puts one hand on the cart for most of our trip.
5.  He thinks our salad spinner is very cool toy!  He gets all giddy and laughs a ton when we pull it out!
6.  He is terrified/fascinated by the blender, food processor, and stand mixer and always wants to be held when we run them so he can take a closer look.  He often yells along with them.  It is pretty great! (Can you tell his mom is a food blogger? The kitchen equipment is his favorite!)

We love you so much, baby dude!  Watching you grow up is a delight and an adventure!

Fox Ten Months

Wednesday, November 25, 2015

Thanksgiving is tomorrow, and I like to list off all the things I am grateful for.   I have so much to be thankful for, because we are so blessed, but I think my number one is my family.  Adam and Fox are my world, and I love them so much!  Love comes in all sizes and shapes, but it is the thing that makes the world go round, and I am SO grateful! I hope you get to spend this weekend with the people that you love!

I can't end this post without telling you a few fun things about Fox at this age!

1.  He finally started scooting a few weeks ago, and now can be found almost anywhere in the apartment.  He loves opening the bottom drawer in the bathroom vanity, and playing with the fridge magnets.
2.  Bathtime has become his favorite time of the day.  He now scoots as fast as he can toward the tub if he hears the water running.
3.  He is still eating anything and everything and has learned how to ask for more with sign language!  It is the cutest thing!
4.  He has to get outside at least once a day, and gets crabby if we stay inside too long.  As soon as we head out, he calms right down, and is so happy.
5.  He loves eating curry, but a few days ago, it was a little too spicy for him, and he kept sticking his tongue out like he was trying to cool it down.  A little sad, but really cute!
6.  He has started scooting around while holding stuff, and will carry balls, legos and blocks around with him while he cruises the apartment.  I love seeing him exploring and learning new skills!  He is more fun everyday!
